Grant's Golden Mole.
|
The Grant's Golden Mole is a small mammal. It was listed in 2003 as a vulnerable species. Their decreasing numbers are due to being preyed upon by domesticated cats and dogs. The African Spotted Eagle Owl and Barn Owls are also a predator of Grant's Golden Mole. This particular species of the golden mole is the smallest of all. They are usually between 7 to 9 cms in length, and weighing around 15 to 30 grams. This is also the only golden mole that has a developed fourth claw. This is particularly helpful to this species, as they live in very dry areas, it enables Grant's Golden Mole to dig more efficiently. They are primarily nocturnal animals, emerging from the sand at night to feed. During the day they have been known to burrow into the sand and conserve their energy. They feed mainly on desert insects such as termites, ants, spiders, etc. Further Information on Grant's Golden Mole: (Email to add your web link for further information)Sponsored Links: E-mail to add your Grant's Golden Mole related website. |
